The Artist as Art

What do you get when you temper vanity with cool software? Take a look ... the Artist (that's me) has rendered himself as a work of art using Scribble Sketch in Adobe Photoshop.

Jet Shadow

The runway of the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is adjacent to a park called Gravelly Point. When the wind is right, jets come down the Potomac River and buzz Gravelly Point as they land. The shadow is of a jet several hundred feet above the field ... I stood on a picnic table for forty-five minutes and snapped photo after photo until I captured this image. If I had planned ahead, I would have worn sunblock and used earplugs.

Abstract #1

The following abstract photos were taken without filters, enhancements or special lighting. These are raw photographs with a message ... a message only you can decipher.

Abstract #6

The purpose of abstract art is to invite the observer to define the subject ... what you see is a reflection of an internal aspect of yourself. I hope you see something beautiful!

The Shadow of Helios

The Altes Museum in Berlin has a colossal statue of Helios. On the wall behind the statue is The Shadow of Helios. In his guise as the Sun, Helios casts many shadows but I think this is the first time an image of his shadow has ever been captured.

Mannequin?

At first, I thought this mannequin was a real woman ... then I realized she was actually real ... finally, I decided that it didn't really matter ... she was a work of art.

Eyes of Paris

The streets of Paris achieve the fine balance of utility and fantasy. The workaday jobs get done but you're never very far from a person who looks like a piece of art ... or a piece of art that looks like a person. A window display at the Palais Royal caught my attention ...

Phantom Commuters

Just because more people are telecommuting
doesn't mean their phantoms can't wait for the bus.

Two Books and Two Songs

Cloud City in Flames

Cloud City in Flames is perhaps the greatest piece of art ever fashioned by human hands. It's a hologram that has been projected into low-earth orbit—a city made of clouds being consumed but never devoured by relentless flames. The creator of Cloud City in Flames is a young woman named Lisa Prime—this is her story. In her quest for artistic and scientific expression, Lisa devised a way to use technology to transcend the limits of our three-dimensional world and access unlimited aspects of space and time. There was, however, a price to pay for such omnipotent abilities.

The paperback edition has 27 color plates of abstract representations of Cloud City in Flames.

Cloud City in Flames is available as paperback and Kindle at Amazon.com.

Utopian Abyss

The world needs idealized people and places to exemplify the best qualities of individuals and communities. What better name for an ideal place than Utopia? Founded in the late 1600s in a nebulous location in the American mid-west, Utopia has maintained its independence by establishing itself as a "gated community" ... access by non-Utopians is discouraged and prohibited whenever possible. The resulting tightly-knit 21st century society has achieved levels of unparalleled security and prosperity.

It has been the customary fate of literary Utopias to devolve from fanciful paradises into predictable fiascos resulting in the shattering of idealized dreams and the degradation of all human dignity. Those Utopias failed because they weren’t built around an Abyss.

Utopian Abyss is available as paperback, hardback and Kindle at Amazon.com.

Music

Loi-i-a

Lou-i-a is a rockin' song about unrequited love ... not too sappy but sincere.

Completely Half Empty

Completely Half Empty calls into question the legitimacy and agenda of the major news providers.
The coda is eloquently recited by Len Bracken.
